Oramix attended Jornadas FCCN 2026, Portugal’s leading event dedicated to technology, connectivity and digital innovation for the academic and scientific community.
Over three days, the event brought together higher education institutions, specialists and technology organisations to discuss the main technological and cybersecurity challenges currently affecting Portugal’s education and research sector.
Oramix led the session “Deploying Secure Networks in Education”, presented by Carlos Caldeira, Cybersecurity Manager & CISO at Oramix. The session focused on the main cybersecurity challenges faced by higher education institutions in a context defined by federated networks, hybrid environments, the proliferation of IoT devices and the increasing sophistication of attacks.
The topics addressed included network segmentation, visibility over critical infrastructure, service continuity, ransomware protection and the impact of the NIS2 Directive on education and research institutions.
Academic networks were designed to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing, which are fundamental values of the scientific ecosystem. However, this openness now represents a growing risk vector: thousands of simultaneous users, heterogeneous devices and distributed access make these infrastructures increasingly attractive targets for cyberattacks. Adopting a structured cybersecurity strategy tailored to the specific characteristics of the academic sector is now a necessity, not an option.
Oramix’s participation in Jornadas FCCN 2026 also included attending the networking dinner held at Palácio da Bolsa, providing an opportunity to connect and share ideas with Portugal’s academic and scientific community.
